About KAHOMA

The Korea Association for History of Modern Art (KAHOMA) was established on Feb. 28, 1990, using the name Hyeondae Misulsa Yeonguhoe, which was changed to Hyeondae Misulsahakhoe in 1998. Its mission was to promote wide research on art history and its related fields, in particular in modern and contemporary art history. Since 2000, KAHOMA has been encouraging more interdisciplinary study, collaborating with other art and research institutions. It also hosts two regular conferences, the Spring Conference and the Fall Conference, as well as irregular theme-centered international symposiums. KAHOMA’s scholarly activities center on the publication of the peer-reviewed journal titled The Journal of History of Modern Art, which is published twice per year, on June 30 and December 31. The first president of KAHOMA was Yun Nan-jie, followed by Ma Soon-ja, Kim Hye-joo, Oh Jin-kyeong, Kim Mi-kyung, Shim Sang-yong, Kang Tae-hi, Kim Jung Hee, Kim Jea-won, Kim Hyeon Joo, Jeon Hye-sook, Lee Young Wook, Cho Eun Young and Jung Eun Young and Chung Yeon Shim.

One of the most established art associations in Korea, The Korea Association for History of Modern Art has garnered national and international recognition in the study of modern and contemporary art, in particular in the study of post-war art history, art theory, art criticism and curatorial research. Recent international symposiums examined media art and architectural history, design theory, material culture, and so on. By publishing a bi-annual journal, KAHOMA encourages new scholarly research as well as new methodologies of art history and other disciplinary studies. The editorial board members for the Journal of History of Modern Art consist of internationally distinguished art historians, critics and professors.
